SENATOR JIM MUNSON’S REMARKS IN THE SENATE ON THE 2004 SPECIAL OLYMPICS CANADA WINTER GAMES IN CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI

This week, I had the great honour of attending the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown, PEI.

As a prelude to the Special Olympics World Games that will take place next year in Nagano, Japan, these games are showcase for some of Canada’s greatest athletes.  The games also demonstrate the tireless dedication of hundreds of coaches, managers, and organizational staff who volunteer their time in order to advance the Special Olympics movement.

I was deeply touched by everyone involved in the games and I am proud to be able to play a role in spreading their message.

I encourage all Honourable members to “check out” (looking for a better term) this exceptional organization and to support all of the brave athletes as they strive to attain their goals.
